What Is Vivo’s In-Display Fingerprint Sensor?

Vivo pioneered under-display fingerprint technology — here’s what it means for screen repairs.

Definition: Vivo introduced the world’s first commercial under-display fingerprint sensor with the Vivo X20 Plus UD in 2018. Vivo’s in-display sensor is optical — a camera beneath the AMOLED panel captures an image of the fingerprint illuminated by the screen. It is now standard on all Vivo X and most V series phones.

Why it matters for screen repair

Since the fingerprint sensor works through the AMOLED panel, replacement screen quality directly affects authentication performance. A panel with different glass thickness or optical transmission reduces sensor accuracy — fingerprints are harder to read or recognition fails entirely. After any Vivo screen replacement, all fingerprints must be deleted and re-registered regardless of panel quality. PhoneDoctor uses OEM-grade panels to maintain optimal sensor performance.
