What Is a Laptop Hinge?
The joints that let your screen open and close.
Definition: Laptop hinges are the metal joints connecting the screen to the base. They’re screwed into mounts inside the casing, and the display cable usually runs through or right beside them.
Signs of a hinge problem
The screen flops back or won’t stay upright, opening feels stiff or grinds, the bezel or bottom case is cracking near the hinge, or you hear a click. If the screen flickers when you move the lid, the display cable may already be getting pinched.
Why you shouldn’t wait
A failing hinge puts stress on everything around it. Left alone, it can rip its mounts out of the plastic casing, crack the screen, or damage the display cable. At that point a simple hinge job can turn into a much bigger repair.
How it’s repaired
