What Is OriginOS / FuntouchOS?
Vivo’s Android skins — and how failed updates cause boot loops.
Definition: Vivo uses two Android skins depending on market: OriginOS (China market) and FuntouchOS (international market, including Singapore). Both sit on top of Android and control the home screen, camera app, settings, and built-in Vivo applications. FuntouchOS is what Singapore Vivo users run.
FuntouchOS and repairs
Failed FuntouchOS OTA updates are a known cause of Vivo phones entering boot loops. Vivo’s firmware reflash process uses the PD tool — PhoneDoctor can reflash FuntouchOS firmware without erasing user data in most cases. If the NAND storage chip is physically damaged from a drop or water ingress, the firmware cannot be restored through software and board-level repair is required.
Common FuntouchOS issues
Boot loop after update: OTA update interrupted or corrupted — resolved with firmware reflash in most cases without data loss.
System app crashes: Factory resetting the app in Settings or clearing cache partition usually resolves without full reflash.
Slow after update: FuntouchOS performs optimisation for 24–48 hours after updates — normal. Persistent slowness usually resolves with a cache wipe.
